“it takes a lot of violence to drive sexpats away”

Interesting article on effects of the protests on the Thai sex trade on Slate:

What Happens to Thailand’s Sex Tourism During the Riots?

They even mention Nong Khai, my old hood, and it’s multitude of old geezers with their retired Issan hooker gfs:

“Nong Khai is home to several hundred western men who either have Thai girlfriends or are looking to sleep with loads of women whose destitution makes them especially willing.”

Good article – but have you read the responses from the sexpats? They’re all high-and-mighty about how the authour has “painted” Thailand with her “prejudices.” Um… Excuse me? The way you see your sex tourism does not compute in the real world. It’s gross!! Normal people don’t see it as healthy or normal!! The way they see Thai people – as simple, friendly souls, who of course never condone peadophilia – isn’t accurate. Of course there’s good and bad, like with any culture, but I know from your blog, and from general knowledge, that peadophilia is alive and well and easy to come by in Thailand. Yeesh.

    Hi Angie,

yeah, that’s exactly it — these guys have completely lost the plot and any moral compass whatsoever. Sexpats commenting on the web — yeah, it makes youtube comments sound intelligent, mature, and well-thought out.
