yo mama so phat

Any woman living in Thailand gets used to a bunch of fat comments. Once you realize that “not fat” in Thailand means 50 kilos or less, which even in anorexic Western supermodels is not a realistic weight past the age of 10, you start just laughing off conversations like this:

Me: I think I’ve lost a few pounds from biking 20 km every day.
Massage therapist: No, you’re still fat.

Or:

Thai Friend: You’re so fat!
Me: Really? I thought you looked fatter.
Friend: No, you more fat than me!
Me (patting her stomach, looking concerned): Will your baby be a boy or a girl, do you think?

Or:

Me: In Thailand it’s ok to be “fat”, but it’s like you have to admit your transgression and then everything is ok.
Justin: What’s funny here is that fat people can still be really popular. There’s no fat kid that no one talks to and bullies at school like in America. Fat people can still have lots of friends.
Me: Except all your friends will call you “Fatty”.
Justin: Exactly.

(Uh-oh, gecko fight)

There was a popular Hong Kong actress that had that exact nickname.
