location, location

In most places in Thailand, condoms come in boxes of three. This is compared to say, Canada, where they normally come in boxes of 12, or for the particularly lucky and/or slutty, 24.

This small size is normal for the developing world, where many companies sell small sizes (what we normally call “travel sizes” back home ) for their products, because consumers like to buy a little bit at at time, whenever they have money, instead of a big size (and big cash outlay) all at once.

Interestingly, one of the few places where you can find boxes of 12 condoms is at the Boots in Silom, Sala Daeng, which is the right in the middle of 1) the gay clubbing district of Soi 2 and Soi 4 2) the gay red light district of Boystown, and 3) the straight red light district of Patpong.
